HeidelbergCement one of the largest worldwide construction materials companies is looking for a Lead DevOps Engineer (f/m/d) to scale our microservice oriented cloud architecture on a rock-solid containerized infrastructure. Your mission is to enable our product engineering teams to enjoy the beauty of continuous delivery and provide best in class observability across our systems. Ideally you started your career as a SW engineer and later transitioned to SRE.We as a DAX 40 company are working very hard on the digitalization of our core businesses. The journey of becoming the first industrial tech company in our sector has just started and now it’s the perfect time to join us.Additional training and coaching are part of the package so if you are passionate about site reliability engineering (SRE) and committed to both observability and agility then this is the job for you.Our digital core is separated into multiple clusters that span across the globe. Our traffic is growing significantly while our teams release software on a frequent basis. Our teams work for example on AI/ML models to run our cement mills considering demand and energy price, web & mobile applications to offer ordering or telematics solutions to track our trucks on their way to the job sites.As technical leader for a small team of DevOps engineers, you and your team will be contributing to our cross-functional product teams and advocate for observability, gradual changes, modern tooling and automation in our Kubernetes stack on AKS using GitLab CI pipelines. You will use EFK, Grafana and Prometheus to keep our system monitored while at the same time you will think two steps ahead to evolve our stack so that it can cater to our future needs.

Your next challenge

  • Act as the technical lead within our DevOps team which requires being very hands-on
  • Lead the path towards DevSecOps practices
  • Stay in the heat when our systems are in trouble and act as a role model
  • From a strategy on how we can bring more DevOps practices into the individual product teams
  • Bring in best practices from other Tech Companies to evolve our processes and technologies
  • Consult Senior Management Team in technological decisions
  • Align very well with Tech Leads from the product teams to ensure that they get full support
  • Design, develop and execute automation scripts using open source tools
  • Drive ownership of our CI/CD pipelines and make them better every day
  • Build tools, services and plugins to bridge the gaps in our current infrastructure
  • Moderate blameless post mortems

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science (or comparable qualification)
  • At least 7 years of work experience in software engineering and/or operations
  • Ability to guide and to moderate heated technical discussions with senior experts
  • First experience in leading a team technically would be very welcome
  • Understanding of automation, source control, virtualization, build and release best practices
  • Profound knowledge of CI/CD tools (Gitlab experience is a must)
  • Practical knowledge with Kubernetes (AKS experience is a strong plus)
  • Experience with PostgreSQL. experience with the EFK stack, coding experience in Python, Go
  • Experience with Terraform, Ansible and the Azure Cloud
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Drive for automation, improve both technologies and processes
  • (Lead) DevOps Engineer that can code and not just bash scripting (.NET, Java, JS)
  • Very solid sense of ownership and drive
  • Comfortable to work in an international team
  • Eager to travel internationally (occasionally)
