Red Ventures is looking for a lead engineer in London to rapidly grow our new product offerings from a whiteboard drawing to a full-fledged destination for consumers looking for advice on financial, broadband, and energy products. You’ll be responsible for guiding the technical and product direction of your team alongside the business leaders, as well as interfacing with our revenue partners. You will be a hands-on player and a coach, and it will be up to you to evolve your team’s technical depth, break large-scale problems into manageable phases and quickly deliver solutions to the business. If you like the challenge of fixing things quickly and efficiently, this is the role for you. The ideal candidate for this role is hungry for a “ground floor” leadership opportunity on a team that will grow from one to many people in under a year.

About the Role

  • Develop scalable web applications for award-winning consumer-facing financial tools
  • Develop modules to assist in dynamic personalisation of different experiences based on session data
  • Develop efficient real-time algorithms for looking at many data points and performing rapid transformations for actionable responses from API requests
  • Develop custom drop-in components for features that are reusable across apps
  • Design new API interfaces for use inside and outside the organization
  • Work with UX and design teams to transform wireframes into living products
  • Own full requirements and implementation, release management, QA regression scripts, and deployment to containerized production environments

About You

  • Proficiency with API back-end programming at scale. Java, Clojure, or Go a plus
  • Proficiency with implementing new data schemas in a datastore as well as the DAO layer of a framework
  • Proficiency with defining, documenting, consuming and producing RESTful APIs
  • Proficiency with security requirements, authentication and authorization layers (OAuth2, PCIDSS, Okta)
  • Experience with efficient sorting and mapping strategies for large data sets
  • Experience with handling scaling challenges, and continually improving algorithms from agile MVP to optimized production software
  • Experience with client-side state management tools like Redux, VueX, or flux
  • Familiarity with how databases work, experience in a relational paradigm (PostgreSQL) as well as NoSQL (Redis)
  • Familiarity with web service delivery stacks (nginx, jetty, undertow, virtual host configuration)
  • Familiarity working in the cloud, especially as it pertains to the front end: (Amazon S3 or Azure Blob, Cloudfront, Cloudflare, Fastly, etc.)
  • Familiarity with tag and event tracking libraries (e.g. Segment, Adobe DTM, Google Analytics)
  • Understanding of the HTTP fundamentals, especially HTTP 2.0
  • You’ve had experience leading engineers within agile teams
  • Care about the product life cycle and the lifetime value of the customer - without our customers we wouldn’t have a business
  • Willingness to get deeply involved in the larger engineering community, influence and contribute back to that community through open source projects and conferences
  • The ability to prioritize, strategize, execute and deliver projects on time
