The department Softwareentwicklung und Plattformen (SEP) is the development unit within the Bavarian public broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk. We build award-winning apps for Android and iOS, intelligent applications for screens of all sizes, as well as websites and blogs. We work closely with various editorial teams in radio, television and web and develop innovative platforms like BR24, the BR Mediathek, the BR Radio App or, together with ARD.de, the ARD Audiothek.

The Job:

For the various web development teams of our SEP department, we are looking for a software developer (f/m/d) who already brings versatile knowledge of current web technologies. As part of the team, you will be responsible for implementing and optimizing features that provide our users with the best possible customer experience when discovering our various platforms and content offerings. You will be responsible for helping to develop and enhance the technical architecture for our core web products such as BR24, the BR Mediathek or the ARD Audiothek. These are your tasks:
  • Translating product requirements and designs into production-ready code in
  • HTML, CSS, JavaScript and other modern web technologies
  • Participating and contributing to all aspects of development - from design, programming and code review, to testing, deployment, and bug fixing
  • Supporting project management to understand the scale, effort, and technical interactions when developing new features
  • Collaborating with UX Design, Userlab, QA, and the entire SCRUM team in an agile, self-organized work environment
What we value:
  • Degree in an IT-related field of study (e.g. computer science, business informatics, media informatics, engineering)
  • At least four years of professional experience as a developer of modern HTML5 websites or WebApps
  • High competence in developing modular applications using ES6 modules, CommonJS and AMD
  • Deep experience with React.js, Node.js, Apollo and GraphQL
  • Very good understanding of CSS based on SASS or LESS as well as Styled Components
  • Experience with package managers like yarn, npm, bower
  • Experienced skills in using build systems like webpack, gulp or grunt
  • Debugging in common browsers
  • Sense and understanding of responsive design
  • Proficiency in using GIT (via GUI or terminal)
  • Advanced knowledge of Docker and database systems such as MySQL, Postgres and MongoDB
  • Solid experience implementing tracking and A/B testing tools
  • Expertise in project management using SCRUM, Jira and Confluence.
  • Self-motivated team player with a strong interest in expanding the possibilities of their working evironment
  • Fluency in German or English. Office language is German, but there are also colleagues who only speak English
