As a Lead Engineer you’ll drive the technical delivery of a team, managing their workload and ensuring the right skills are available. You will be responsible for the work undertaken by your Developers and DevOps staff, and will be expected to work with peer Engineers to build best practice, high-quality, reliable digital services.Alongside this you’ll be responsible for mentoring and leading other engineers in technical tasks, as well as supporting recruitment and assessment activities.Additionally the role will involve:• leading the day to day activities of engineers in your team, ensuring everyone is working effectively and efficiently; reporting any impediments• coaching your team as well as Supporting Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and encouraging formal professional qualifications.• supporting capability build in your team and in the organisation• taking a hands-on role with engineering delivery when necessary, blending your leadership and technical tasks to achieve team objectives• ensuring appropriate methods are being used, as well as leading efforts to identify improved tools/technologiesEssential SkillsWe’re looking for a skilled engineer to join us as we transform our processes and bring new digital services online to serve the UK public. You’ll be someone who has a passion for software engineering and strong Agile, Development and DevOps experience.You’ll also have strong skills or experience in: working with the ServiceNow platform, including:- ServiceNow System Administration Certification- designing ServiceNow applications and web-based solutions- cross-tool understanding of ServiceNow, such as workflow, user interface (UI), client scripts, and business rules• working with a rapid development methodology, in particular Agile/Scrum or DevOps software development• the application development lifecycle process, including requirement analysis, quality assurance, design, scheduling, implementation, issue tracking, version control release management and deployment• JavaScript Web 2.0 Technologies, Web Services and Web communications protocols (knowledge of Angular and Bootstrap desired)• line management or leading a delivery team•communicating with the ability to confidently present to external stakeholders
