Site Reliability Engineer - Associate
Who are we?The CIB Digital Platform supports the business goals of all businesses across the investment bank. Our teams are responsible for technology delivery, having development responsibility for key business systems and overall responsibility for all client facing user experiences within the investment bank. The broader team consists of people based in Glasgow, London, Mumbai and New York.
The group is divided into small, highly motivated, agile teams. Software deliveries are frequent and the team members are expected to be multi-disciplined and flexible in their approach, working in all areas of the solution space. Each team is responsible for the design, build and maintenance of highly available and scalable systems with focus on making lives of other engineers in CIB easier and their products reliable and more performant, supporting hundreds of applications and thousands of developers.
This role is specific to Digital Platform Services. We are transforming our platforms services, shifting to an API-first integration model, scaling up and creating a service that has fully automated integration for our internal engineering community.
Your role:Your role as Lead SRE is to own our Cloud infrastructure and with the AD teams migrate the remaining applications from VMs. With a continuous improvement and SRE mindset, you are empowered to seek new ways to improve our Cloud infrastructure offerings, processes and ways of working. You will manage and upskill the team to your high standards, nurture an Agile, DevOps and SRE culture across the other teams.
Working in tandem with our engineering team you will identify and implement the optimal cloud and virtual machine based solutions. Collaborating with the broader global technology infrastructure teams you will adhere to the firm wide best practices and strategies relating to application deployments and infrastructure maintenance. You will focus on creating highly performant, secure and stable solutions that align to our first class engineering practices and standards.
Collectively, you will work with peers to shape the engineering culture to be centered on collaboration, quality and best practice, enabling us to build the right software in a way that enables the broader J.P. Morgan engineering community to deliver the best experiences possible for our clients.
Key responsibilities * Design, build and deploy cloud applications at the direction of the lead engineers * Participate in all aspects of the software development life cycle for cloud solutions, including planning, requirements, development, testing, and quality assurance * Advocate for the best DevOps practices * Drive our Cloud infrastructure forward with containerization, configuration management, CI pipelines, Infra as code and more - continuously improve with an SRE mindset. * Upskill the team and strive to be ahead of the curve * Optimize our services to scale from the outset using a telemetry stack that you own * Ensure meeting of non-functional requirements for infra performance, load, data volume, concurrent users, auto-scaling and capacity planning - Own SLO, SLI and SLA's * Configure and manage firewalls/connectivity, Perimeter Security, GLBs, HA Proxies * Ensure DR/HA capabilities and documentation is up to firm standards * Strive for continuous improvement through active participation in team, J.P. Morgan community and site-wide activities
You have: * Experience with public and private cloud offerings (AWS beneficial) * Experience with containerization and container orchestration such as Docker and Kubernetes * Experience with Infrastructure as Code using tools such as Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible etc. * Experience building and maintenance of CI pipelines including Jenkins * Experience with coding/scripting such Bash, Groovy, Python, NodeJS * Worked in Agile and DevOps enabled working environments
